London Invaded by Super Ants
More than 35,000 Asian super ants, also known as fire ants, were first discovered inside a National Trust property in Gloucestershire in 2009. But they seem to be spreading across the south of the country after a colony was unearthed in Hendon (North-West London) – nearly 100 miles from the first site.
These super ants are attracted to electricity, which can be a fire hazard when they take up residence in plug sockets and power sources. They will go to extreme lengths to get to electricity sources like chewing through cables and getting inside plug sockets. Their attraction to electricity is even stronger than their natural instincts such as the need for food and water.
Pest Control companies in the UK stress how serious this matter is as these fire ants are a lot more resilient than normal ants.
