How to Prevent the Spread of Bed Bugs
Bed bugs can easily be spread by people who make home visits as part of their job. Michigan State University Extension detailed a variety of steps that can be taken to limit this threat.
Workers should take as few items as they can into homes that they visit. Jackets, bags and other personal belongings should be left in the car. It’s also important to not sit on beds or sofas. Disposable shoe covers can also be worn to prevent bugs from hiding in footwear.
After leaving a property, it’s important to check shoes, clothes and any personal items that were taken inside for bed bugs. It’s also worthwhile having a change of clothes in a sealed bag. After returning home, the potentially infected clothes should be washed and put into a hot dryer for at least half an hour.
Workplaces should also be kept free of clutter. Sparse workplaces offer fewer places for bed bugs to hide and are easier to check.
